The doors that slid open when you walked into the grocery store. Are they AI?

AI is three things: a pile of examples, a program that found the patterns, and a guess. Take any one of those away and it isn't AI.

A calculator. Nobody showed it a million additions. A person wrote the rule for adding. And seven times eight is fifty-six, exactly, every time. Not a guess. Not AI.

The sliding doors. They notice something is there. They never work out what. No examples, no patterns. Not AI.

The video-game enemy that charges when you get close. A person typed "if the player is within ten meters, charge." No examples, no guess. The box says AI. The box is marketing.

Two traps. "It's on a computer" is not one of the three questions. "It seems smart" isn't either. And a calculator is not stupid. It's just not AI.
